Jointly organized by Internal Revenue Department
under the Ministry of Finance and Revenue, World Bank and Public
Expenditure and Financial Accountability, a press conference on
Myanmar tax system was held at the meeting hall of the department here
on 26 July.
A delegation led by Senior Economist Dr. Tuan Minh Le of PEFA from 24
to 26 July held talks with officials from Internal Revenue Department
on existing income tax Law, Trading Tax Law, Office Act and Myanmar
Stamp Act, tax policy and tax management, which are being practised by
IRD. The press conference packed with Director-General and officers of
IRD is meant to explain the findings on Myanmar tax system in
comparison with international tax system.
Taking the advices from the missions of World Bank, International
Monetary Fund, Asian Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation
Agency, International Tax and Investment Centre, Myanmar Development
Resource Institute and Centre for Economic and Social Development as
well as from scholars at home and abroad, the Internal Revenue
Department is carrying out plans to acquire technical assistances for
technology and human resources development and cooperation processes,
relating to the pros and cons of current tax system, procedures and
current and longterm reforms.
