The President office has issued a directive Thursday to use Kyat, the
Myanmar currency, for money transfer within government institutions.
The office said the use of USD for money transfer between the
government departments increase the need of dollars in the local
market and reduces the importance of Kyat.
The ministries and organizations are required to collect taxes and
other fees only in Myanmar Kyat with the exception of the Ministry of
The directive also takes affect to both the central government
mechanism and regional government mechanisms.
