It is the second largest lake in Myanmar, Fresh water lake located Nyaung Shwe township in District of Shan-State, part of shan hills in Myanmar(Burma).It is the second largest lake in Myanmar with and estimate surface area of 44.9 squre miles(116km2) and one of the highest at an altitude of 2,900feet(880m).
During the dry season the average water deep is 7 feet(2.1m) with the deepest point being 12feet(3.7m),but during the raining season this can increase by 5feet(1.5m). Inlay lake is one of the most picturesque sport in Southeast Asia, inlay lake and surrounding region is an outstanding alternative to the historical sites of Bagan and Mandalay.
Surrounded by hazy blue mountains,this lovely lake is home to Intha people, who constructed villages on stilts over the surface of the lake and firm floating island created from mud and reed. Al thought not a large lake, there are a number of endemic species.Over twenty of snails and nine species of fishes are found nowhere else in the world.
Some of these , like the silver-blue scaleless Sawbwa barb (Sawbwa resplend- ence), the Crossbanded dwarf danio(Microrasbora erythro- micron) and inlay danio (Inlecypris auropurpurea) are of minor commercial importance of the aquarium trade. It host the 20,000 brown and black head migratory seagulls in November, December and January.The Intha are also known for their unique leg- rowing. Although inlay lake and the leg-rowers are the most famous attraction in the region, there’s more.
Some highlights of inlay are Phaung Taw Oo Pagoda(home to five Buddhaimages,said to have brought back to Myanmar from Southern Thailand over 700 years ago), the 150-years old wooden Nga Phae Chaung Monastery (a palce to see the “lovely jumping cats”), Shweinntein Pagoda complex and Ywama village(Formerly floating market sites).
